Tuesday 7th April 1987 derby day at Burnden Park, A Today Third Division game, Bolton Wanderers against Wigan Athletic. Bolton were struggling for form and were heading for relegation to Division Four via play-offs, whilst Wigan on the other hand were heading towards a promotion play-off narrowly missing out at the expense of Swindon Town.
Wigan proved to be the better team on the day beating Bolton by the odd goal in three, Jewell and Campbell netting for the Latics and Hartford from the penalty spot for Bolton.
