fc halifax town
the shay
Friday 3rd April 1987 Halifax Town faced Scunthorpe United in a Today Fourth Division game, A young Mark Atkins played for Scunthorpe, little did I know he would star for Blackburn eight years later in their Premier League champions year. I spent the night as an "IRON" , My ears were ringing with the word for weeks after, Must have been the most repetitive chant i have ever witnessed. Halifax were in dire states financially and the state of the place and lack of support showed. Credit to them though, they were pleasurable hosts on the night, The game was a tail of two penalties, One for each team, Brown converting for Halifax, Lister did likewise for Scunthorpe.
