Saturday 7th May 1988, A leisurely visit to The Den, Home of Millwall and newly crowned Champions of Barclays Second Divsion, The game needed to be won by Blackburn if they stood any chance of obtaining a play-off place, Early to arrive and trying to obtain a matchday programme was a task I found very challenging, I think in all the excitement of the day Millwall forgot to drop some near to the away end. But already being inside the ground it was not like I could venture around to get one, I took it upon myself to take a walk round to the Home end to obtain around 50 copies, with very little help from stewards on duty, With a few strange looks from the home folk I carried on with my mission and finally a seller was spotted, mission accomplished I thought, The harder one was getting back into the Away end, strange really considering I was wearing a Rovers shirt. Once back with the Rovers fans, Millwall were being presented the champions trophy, I must admit I felt a little envious, but was still hopeful that promotion could be gained through the play-offs, so that meant cheering the lads onto a victory at all costs today. I wasn't to be disappointed, Blackburn swept Millwall aside with ease, winning 4 1, Price, Barker and 2 goals from Garner doing the damage, Sheringham getting Millwalls. At the final whistle all sides of the ground were in jubilant mood, Millwall fans had come onto the playing area to congratulate their team, at one point they even approached the Rovers fans and started applauding, The gesture was returned. A truly eventful and bizarre trip that was.
