charlton athletic
selhurst park (crystal palace)
Saturday 26th April 1986 saw a visit to Selhurst Park (The home of Crystal Palace), however it was Charlton who were entertaining Blackburn Rovers in a Canon Second Division game, Charlton had been forced to leave their home base of "The Valley" for safety reasons earlier in the season and financial reasons at the club at that time meant they would spend a few more years away from their spiritual home. They return to the Valley in December of 1992.
The game was very much a disappointing one for a Rover, but Charlton were heading for promotion to the top league a few games later, they ran out 3 0 winners, Melrose, Pearson and a penalty from Reid doing the damage.
CHARLTON: Johns, Humphrey, Reid, Flanagan, Thompson, Pender, Shipley, Melrose (sub Lee), Pearson, Aizlewood, Stewart
BLACKBURN: O'Keefe, Branagan, Rathbone, Barker, Keeley, Fazackerley, Miller, Hamilton, Thompson, Garner, Patterson
ATTENDANCE: 5,766
